Interesting about the yogurt, and it would make sense that it would be a fine substitute as most commercial buttermilk today (and what I used in this cake) is a cultured dairy product as is yogurt. Another buttermilk substitute is to add a bit of lemon juice or vinegar to sweet milk and let it sit a moment until it clabbers.Susanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11692999404326628908noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4279311869237231755.post-51882548634771741602011-04-11T19:15:51.680-04:002011-04-11T19:15:51.680-04:00Easy and delicious. Fwiw, I used drinkable plain yogurt since that's all they had at the Ronnybrook booth and I didn't want to go to the store for milk/buttermilk and think it worked just fine.Allison Chttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13239871611318703353noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4279311869237231755.post-19861284842109463862011-04-09T20:49:17.207-04:002011-04-09T20:49:17.207-04:00Betty: Sour milk (which is not spoiled milk, but f...Betty: Sour milk (which is not spoiled milk, but fresh milk to which some acid, like lemon juice has been added until it clabbers) can substitute for buttermilk and vice versa. I usually use buttermilk, unless I have none and DH isn't willing to go to the avenue bodega to buy me some : )Susanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11692999404326628908noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4279311869237231755.post-2062256288524495052011-04-08T22:20:53.709-04:002011-04-08T22:20:53.709-04:00looks incredible -- and i don't even like choc...looks incredible -- and i don't even like chocolate cake! but...what is sour milk? is it sour cream? or buttermilk?Betty Ming Liuhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12813430892163044457noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4279311869237231755.post-20728420560392088832011-04-07T12:41:01.726-04:002011-04-07T12:41:01.726-04:00why is julia louis-dreyfuss eating your cake??why is julia louis-dreyfuss eating your cake??Paul LaRosahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09803365823128935777noreply@blogger.com
